Welcome to the Heinrich Reserve Open Day
Proudly presented by Heinrich Bushcare Group.
Saturday 22 August. 1pm to 4pm.
Meet at Bayside Drive near Jacaranda Avenue
Lugarno.
The Australian Government has funded a bushland restoration project which will help improve the quality of stormwater entering Lime Kiln Bay.
This project has been a joint venture of the Heinrich Bushcare Group and Hurstville City Council.
Come along and let the bushcare volunteers show you what work is continuing to be done and what has been done with the funds.
The funds have contributed towards contract work for a footbridge crossing a stormwater channel, weed removal and terracing of a steep slope to allow follow-up weeding and some planting by the bushcare volunteers. Most of the area is regenerating after weed removal without the need for planting. A silt-trap has been built to catch silt before it enters the river. The silt-trap is cleaned out regularly by the bushcare volunteers and they continue to push back the weed boarders with weed removal and weed control.
The Rural Fire Brigade and Riverwood Fire Brigade have burnt piles of weeds which have contributed towards a higher diversity in native regeneration.
The project was supported by the Lugarno Progress Association and Oatley Flora & Fauna Conservation Society. A class from Lugarno Public School helped to plant out a buffer zone.
On the 22 August you are welcome to discover a delightful corner of bushland that overlooks Oatley Park. You can do to some work, learning on site or celebrate with the volunteers at afternoon tea. There will be a display of before work pictures for you to compare.
Remember to wear appropriate work clothes, sturdy shoes and sun hat.
We look forward to seeing you.
